Business to build water garden to benefit youth.

Ledger Dispatch

Friday, June 13, 2008 -- Sierra Hearth & Home, based in Mother Lode Plaza, has bubbled up with a unique concept to benefit the Amador County U-Turn Youth program. On Saturday, June 21, the business will build an 18-foot stream and pondless waterfall at no cost at the Sutter Amador Outpatient Center next to Sutter Amador Hospital. Twenty participants who will help build the feature to gain skills will pay $79 which covers training, lunch and a 20 percent discount on water garden supplies at Sierra Hearth & Home. All proceeds benefit U-Turn, which meets Fridays from 7 to 10 p.m. at New Life Christian Center on Ridge Road in Sutter Creek.

"To teach and promote the water garden lifestyle while benefiting the youth of Amador County is what we had in mind," said Stan Hampton, business owner with his wife, Shirley. To participate, call 223-4007.

Saturday, June 21, 2008 -- 1st ANNUAL WATER GARDEN YOUTH BENEFIT

Sierra Hearth & Home and 5 participants built an 18 foot stream and pondless waterfall free of charge at the:

Sutter Amador Out Patient Center

100 Mission Blvd, next to Sutter Amador Hospital.

On June 21, 2008

Sierra Hearth & Home held a “Hands on Seminar” training, on how to build a “Pondless Waterfall”.  This is simply a recirculating waterfall and/or stream without the presence of a pond.  Still being able to enjoy the sight and sound of running water without the maintenance of a pond.  A Pondless is virtually maintenance free, simply top off the reservoir from time to time to compensate for water loss due to evaporation.  A Pondless waterfall is energy efficient with no ecological need to run the system continuously.

Each participate paid a small fee to learn how to build a waterfall, along with the support of lumber supplies from our local Meeks Hardware in Martel.  All of the proceeds went to Amador County U-Turn Youth Program, which is an outreach for the youth of Amador County, ages 12-18 who meet every Friday night from 7:00 to 10:00 @ New Life Christian Center, 87 West Ridge Road in Sutter Creek, “Where the Youth have fun since 2001”.  Activities include indoor and outdoor games, free food, music; live human videos and a discussion of the topic of interest every Friday night.

If you have ever thought about constructing your own piece of paradise or ever dreamed of having your own pond or waterfall to accent your landscape and enrich your life by the refreshing beauty and sound of water. Call Sierra Hearth & Home at 223-4007.
